Leviticus: Book of Profanity

Leviticus may seem like a strange place to talk about profanity, but the book is deeply concerned with what people treat as holy, common, clean, or polluted. In Scripture, profanity is not just about curse words—it’s about crossing boundaries that dishonor God, people, or sacred life itself. Leviticus exposes how fear, power, shame, and exclusion can turn human beings into things labeled “unclean” or disposable. This summer sermon series will explore how ancient purity laws still shape the ways we judge, divide, and value one another today. Along the way, we’ll ask a hard question: what do our beliefs and actions reveal about what we truly consider sacred?
